The Bandaranaike International Airport is reported to have resumed normal operations, according to a Media Centre for National Security Spokesman.
The airport was shut late night Thursday after the Air Force were alerted of several suspected LTTE aircrafts coming towards the Air Force base at Katunayake and the Bandaranaike International Airport.
Defence authorities directed that movements of all civilian aircrafts cease at the airport, and shut down electricity in Colombo and areas surrounding the Airport and Air force base as a security measure while activating the anti air defence system. Soon after part of the country was blacked out, military personnel began firing into the skies in a bid to prevent the aircrafts coming towards the air force base.
