Authorities of the national hospital in Kandy have taken measures to keep the suspected H1N1 patients in a special isolation ward, Kandy District health authorities said.

Central Provincial Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa, has directed the authorities in the Kandy hospital to take these steps following the recent rapid spread of swine flu cases.

At present fifteen patients with complaints of fever are under observation in the special ward. They are being closely monitored by the hospital staff.

Since children are more vulnerable to the H1N1 virus, the Governor has stressed to provide special care in the cases of children.

Health authorities said the region is exposed to swine flu and urged the people to take extra precaution as a school boy from a leading school in the area died last week.
