It need not necessarily be done with third party maangers.
Anyway, what about VMWare support?

Maybe it was a problem with your graphics driver.
You only tested with these with the latest driver, right? Latest driver doesn't mean it's now full of bugs.

hehe ok... if he is running the linux from the liveCD... its most probably a free(as in freedom) driver. most of the time the proprietary drivers works well(for obvious reasons!)

How come?
You said open source stuff are better at bug fixing?

oh yes they are! they rock! but you know what when people write drivers they need some very important information about the chipset and they cool new features. cause they have to know what the chips understands and stuff... but ATI, NVIDIA.. don't want to release the info to linux developers... the people who code open source drivers. because they fear competition. like what if ATI look at NVIDIA's chipsets.. inner workings.. etc
so open source driver coders have to hack and reverse engineer the existing drivers or they have to brute force the chipsets for commands...!!!! and they do it! but its very hard and takes time... as a result. free drivers are not that better than Prop. ones.
and it is 100% falut of the graphic card manufactures!!! these dick heads are too dumb... they'll pay the price for this in the future....
btw Intel have open graphic drivers. they chipset stuff are all open..

But the thing is, they are not having any problem with the current way they are operating. All the games are intended for Windows and drivers for Windows are at a very high standard, except small hiccups every now and then. Maybe if game developers specifically support Linux (not in WINE or modifying them to work in Linux environment), they will give Linux a chance. But at current state, it's not really appealing for them.
Besides, game developers don't wanna make their games open source nor free of charge. That hurts Linux gaming.

ATI, NIVIDIA all develop drivers for linux! but they are not open... if it was open the openness could make the driver 99% better than the prop. ones.
and people do write games for linux. just search for all the multilayer games. most of them have there servers running in linux boxes. they are natively coded to run on nix. there are a lots of games that runs nativly on nix. there are lots of free as in free beer type of games and non free games for linux. a lot of people do use linux. the numbers are very bigger than most you think! ;)
nope, all the graphic drivers are not exploiting the full potential of the cards the hardware... research shows that the race between ATI and nivida is about who have the better drivers! and not much about the hardware.
you know most of this driver shit goes away when people like Dell start selling pre linux installed boxes. cause then they have to support the hardware :) thats the most important thing about people offering pre installed linux.
and btw there are lots of problems with windows... it waste a lot of resources and most of the game developers knows this. you can run games and anything for that matter, in linux with low resources and better performance.. when compared to windows. thats a very big reason to play games in linux!
