Eleven combatants were killed in Sri Lanka's volatile north and east regions during the past 48 hours, rival parties say.
Military spokesman, brigadier Prasad Samarasinghe, told BBC Sandeshaya that four police personnel were killed on Sunday morning in Kokadichaolai, Batticaloa.
The Special Task force (STF) personnel were travelling in a tractor when it caught in an explosion carried out by the Tamil Tigers, he said.

Three other STF personnel who sustained injuries are being treated in Batticaloa hospital.
The military spokesman also accused LTTE of firing mortars and artillery on Sri Lanka troops around Omanthai, Vavuniya and Madhu east.
A soldier has sustained injuries in the attacks.
Tamil Tigers said two soldiers were killed in Navatkulam. Elevan injured soldiers were admitted to Anuradhapura hospital.
Meanwhile, three civilians were injured in Thachchanamaradamadu in an attack launched by Sri Lanka military, Tamil Tigers said.
In Mannar, five Tamil Tigers were killed by the foot patrol soldiers who retaliated as they were fired upon by the LTTE, Brigadier Samarasinghe said.
