You can't see a difference in performance just by lowering the timings. CAS Latency 5 means 5 clock cycles. 5 clock cycles of 800MHz = 4 clock cycles of 667MHz. Theoretically no difference in performance.

Yeah, but then comes another problem. Cooling. Stock cooler can handle 3GHz (because 2.93GHz CPU has the same cooler). But then the fan may rotate more and will become loud. Right now, this cooler is dead silent. 900RPM at normal, 2000RPM at 100% on both cores!!!

Also lack of dual channel is hurting your time. But it won't be lower than 46seconds even with dual channel.

My 2600+ is 4 years old. 2600+ = 2133Mhz at stock. So 56seconds for mine (at stock) and 1min 16seconds for your at stock are comparable.

Are you intentionally running it at 6x multiplier or CPU-Z shows 6x because of EIST? The default multiplier is 7x. That's why I'm asking.

If it is because of EIST, your clock speed while running the test should have been 3003MHz. (429x7)

Don't overvolt. It won't increase the TDP that much. Maybe 5-10W at max with stock voltage.

What's the point of matching the current Intel chipset performance? It's same as ATI HD 2900XT matching the 7-8 month old 8800GTX's performance.

Yes. Intel has released the Centrino successor, code named Santa Rosa. It's a platform just like Centrino. CPU, chipset and motherboard all come under this platform.
