Definitely some people do this, but at the same time, to consider an entire population to be the same is stupid.

The question is what's wrong with them, and what are those in power doing to solve these issues (like take care of the economy so that some people wouldn't have to turn to bribing tourists to get by).

Here's another bit from the same link that disturbs me:

also i went to jaffna (north of sri lanka, tiger country) in late 2004, was told with certainty not to go by locals in colombo, but the closer i got to jaffna, the less worried people seemed. the bus had to stop at army and tamil tiger checkpoints as the area was officially under a ceasefire in the civil war. i was there for 4 days and didn't see another non-local the whole time, i've never felt safer or more welcome anywhere i've ever been.

sometimes a places reputation is just plain wrong

I know some of the backpackers & normal visitors fly to Thailand for many reasons, they go there for food, cheap sex & also for apparel bargain. Thailand is now control by military government after coup and it remains as a high risky place to travel, but they still dominated Asia the highest arrival in Asia. On the other hand sri lnakan Tourism board is not putting a tangible effort to popularise Sri Lanka as a destination, I have never seen SL on news or any other media except for cricket & conflict. They also need to categorise desire & need to full fill the visitor’s wants & needs.
I dnt understand why people gone this far to get bribes even from foreign visitors., even from investors, (Tnx to BOI reshuffle now ) some of the veteran ministers From PA & UNP on the top, while JVP busting our economy.

Macho, kiyala wadak nay, hamadama ekama story. Majority of the people are powerless, which shouldn't be the case in a democracy.

Our line up of politicians don't give much of a choice either, ung okoma horru, ratae aderate kiyala wade kerana okoma ung marala danewa, LTTE nathang politico horru. :(

Wot the F**** Police & CID doing in the country, why they can't eliminate the bloody corruption in the country. Dont understand this administration, Politician should not allow to touch public finance, Central bank of Sri Lanka has to take measure to control the money supply in to the institutes & also Those who violate it has to plea guilty no matter whot their positions are?

Macho, ask yourself who are in control of all that?

There's a saying: "The accomplice to the crime of corruption is frequently our own indifference". But the minute people here voice their concerns, they are labeled sinhala kotiya (or like he's UNP, she's PA, they are JVP) and confuse the issues and continue ignoring peoples yearning.

Hmmm, I dono man need a solution, Bombs blasts can't be eliminated unless we find the solution for war, But this corruption can be taken off if police or CID take action against them, They also need to give maximum penalty for fraud & stealing public funds. Furthermore people need to understand that they are is no need of a politician if they cant comply with the regulations, I saw recently that after SIRIPATHI been arrested our stupid voters still around him & give him support, If someone plea guilty u should abandon them because it's a crime against all the Sri Lankan inhabitants!

Yep war is keep ruing our economy, But money supply has to has to closely observe by Central bank, they release money for institutes and never fellow em up, CID is creeping, they dnt have enough powers to take actins against them, most of the GOV institutes are corrupted due to political intervention. I heard that BOI in process to transform half of those 120Gov institutes as PPE ventures, where politics would not have room to control them.
