May 24, Colombo: Sri Lanka Police commenced a traffic control program using helicopters from today. Police sources said that the test operation was successful.
The program is to be launched during the rush hours of weekday mornings, day times and evenings. The helicopter will identify the roads with heavy traffic and the alternative roads to point the traffic.
Sri Lanka Air Force provides the helicopter and other assistance to the program conducted by the Deputy Inspector of Police Mahinda Balasuriya. Police is to buy its own helicopter depending on the success of the program.
