Exam to be held for grade eight students from next year
By Kelum Bandara
The Department of Examinations will conduct a ‘Performance Evaluation’ for Grade eight students from next year to identify gifted students and give them opportunities to study in popular schools.
The Department will make recommendations to Education Minister, Susil Premajayantha, in this regard shortly.
Commissioner General of Examinations Anura Edirisinghe told the Daily Mirror yesterday this evaluation system would be different from a conventional exam. “We will evaluate grade eight students in ways different to those applicable to sit the Grade five scholarship exams,” he said.
Meanwhile, the exams chief also scotched speculation by some elements that plans are underway to conduct the Advanced Level Examination again in April, next year. “Hereafter, we will conduct the exam in August. There will be no change in that plan. But, there is a rumour spread possibly by some tuition masters to that effect,” he said.
The National Identity Card (NIC) will be made compulsory for Advanced Level students to sit the exam this time. “This is because we will be mentioning their NIC numbers on their results sheets,” he said.
