Australia's richest woman is... Nicole Kidman
SYDNEY - Hollywood superstar Nicole Kidman is Australia’s richest young woman with a 200 million dollar (150 million US) fortune, a new list of the wealthy said on Thursday.
The 39-year-old Oscar-winning star of The Hours and Moulin Rouge ranked fourth overall in the annual list of Australia’s richest under-40s, published by Business Review Weekly (BRW).
The elegant, strawberry-blonde’s wealth comes from two sources, the magazine said: her divorce from Tom Cruise and her own film career.
Kidman, who split with Cruise in 2001, dipped into the mound of cash for a lavish wedding in June to fellow Australian multi-millionaire, country and western singer Keith Urban.
She reportedly spent 100,000 dollars on her dress and those of her bridesmaids and another 100,000 on gifts for the guests, BRW said.
Shortly before the wedding she spent four million dollars on an apartment in an upmarket suburb in her home town of Sydney.
Kidman earned 20 million dollars over the past 12 months, the magazine said, with most money coming from one film, “The Visiting”, in which she plays a psychiatrist battling an alien disease
