Hi

I found this articla on Lakbimanews's website. Apparantly, Rathnagri is a name given to Sripada.

Mountains in Sri Lanka
the central and southern parts of Sri Lanka there are several peaks that are of ecological importance and rich in bio diversity. These mountains are preserved as forests and are the starting points of many rivers. Let us learn some details about them
Sri Pada Peak 2243 m
http://elakiri.com/forum/cid:[email protected] Sri Pada Peak is Sri Lanka’s holy mountain, where people go on pilgrimage to worship the footprint of Lord Buddha
The Sri Pada Peak is the only mountain in the world, where four major religionsgather to worship. To the Buddhist, the imprint found on the summit of the mountain is the hallowed footprint of Lord Buddha. To the Hindus, the footprint is that of God Shiva. To the Christians, it is the footprint of St. Thomas, and to the Muslims it’s the foot print of Adam.
In Sanskrit literature, Sri Pada is called Mount Lanka, Ratnagiri (Mountain of Gems), Malayagiri or Mount Rohana. This last name, like its Arab and Persian equivalent, Al Rohoun, is derived from the name of the south western district of Sri Lanka where Sri Pada is situated. In several Tamil works it is known as Svargarohanam (The ascent to heaven) while the Portuguese called it Pico de Adam and the English Adam’s Peak. In the Mahavamsa, the great chronicle of Sri Lanka written in the 5th century CE, it is called Samantakuta ( Samanta’s Abode) while in modern Sinhalese it is often called Samanelakanda (Saman’s Mountain). Long before Buddhism came to Sri Lanka in about 246 BCE Sri Pada was revered as the abode the god called Samanta, or sometimes Saman or Sumana. This local mountain god was destined to go onto great things. The Theravada Buddhists of Sri Lanka later made Samanta the guardian of their land and their religion.
Sri Lanka is the home of numerous species of glorious butterflies and once a year they form into long chains, sometimes consisting of hundreds of these creatures, and go through the countryside. Legend has it that butterflies were going to Sri Pada to pay homage to the Buddha’s footprint. The other animal associated with the sacred mountain, the leech, is far less pleasant. Ibn Batuta, the Moroccan traveller who visited Sri Lanka in 1344, like many people before and since, was appalled by the tenacity and ferocity of these leeches and mentioned that pilgrims would carry lemons to keep them at bay.
Today the jungle besides the paths that lead up the mountain is cleared at the beginning of each pilgrim season, thus lessening this problem. But rest for a moment on a rock at the jungle’s edge or walk into it to answer a call of nature and hundreds of ravenous leeches will attack.

6°49N 80°30E. Sacred mountain in Sri Lanka, rising to 2243 m/7359 ft NE of Ratnapura; pilgrimages are made (Dec–Apr) to the foot-shaped hollow found on the mountain's summit, believed to be the footprint of Buddha by Buddhists, of Adam by Muslims, of the god Siva by Hindus, and of St Thomas the Apostle by some Christians.
Sri Pada
The view of Sri Pada (Adam’s Peak) from a distance Elevation 2,243 metres (7,360 feet) Location Sabaragamuwa (Sri Lanka) Range Samanala Coordinates 6°48′41″N, 80°29′59″E Sri Pada, also known as Adam's Peak or Adam's Mount, is a 2,243 metre (7,360 feet) tall, conical, mountain located in central Sri Lanka.
Geography

The mountain itself, is located in the southern reaches of the Central Highlands, in the Ratnapura district of the Sabaragamuwa Province - lying about 20 km northeast of the city of Ratnapura.
Both Ratnapura, and Ratnagiri (a historic term used to refer to the mountain), are derived from the Sinhala words rathna, meaning gem, and pura, meaning city - due to vast gem mines located in the region.
Access to the mountain is generally provided by a bus that travels between Siripada and the nearby town of Maskeliya, to the northeast.
Nomenclature

Due to its historical significance to the various peoples that inhabit the region, the mountain, itself, is referred to by a variety of terms.
Shivanolipatha Malai and Shiva padam are two Tamil names holding similar meanings, but both refer to the footprint as being that of the Hindu deity Shiva rather than that of the Buddha.
The Sinhala name of the mountain is Samanalakanda, which is said to refer either to the deity Saman, who is said to live upon the mountain, or to the butterflies (samanalayā) that frequent the mountain during their annual migrations to the region.
The Sacred Mountain

It is revered as a holy site by Buddhists, Hindus, and to a lesser extent by Jews, Muslims and Christians.
Legends

The mountain can only be scaled from December to May. During other months it is hard to climb the mountain due to very heavy rain, jet wind and thick mist.
The footprint mark is said by Buddhists to be that of the left foot of the Buddha, left behind as he strode away, the right footprint being (depending on legend) in Amphoe Phra Phutthabat, Saraburi Province, located about 150 kilometres northeast of Bangkok, Thailand.
Tamil Hindus consider it to be the footprint of Shiva.
Some Islamic traditions too hold that Adam and his companion were moved to Sri Lanka as the next best thing to Eden.
A shrine to Saman, a Buddhist "deity" (People who have done yeoman service to regions are deitified by Sri Lankans) charged with protecting the mountain top, can be found near the footprint.
Other information

This mountain played a role in Arthur C.

This mountain also produces a very high grade White Tea, known as Adams Peak White Tea.

This mountain is also the setting and title of the Pahan Silu song Siripada (2006).
