* Sri Lanka railway strike cancelled

July 09, Colombo: Sri Lanka Railway Services Trade Union Joint Front said that the 24 hour strike planned from midnight today was cancelled after the discussions with the Secretary of the Ministry of Transport.

The strike was planned based on 10 demands and a spokesman of the joint front said that a number of trade unions had pledged support for this token strike.

Meanwhile the Marxist People’s Liberation Front led All Lanka Railway Common Workers’ Union has also proclaimed a countrywide 24-hour work stoppage from the midnight of 12th July as a token action.
