The National ceremony to commemorate the eastern triumph and fallen war heroes is schedule to take place at the Independence Square today (July, 19).
President Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to address the nation at 09.05 a.m. The President is schedule to announce the projects and mega development schemes in the east. Prime Minister Rathnasiri Wickramanayake and other Parliamentarians are due to attend this national ceremony.
Live proceedings of the event will be brought through local and foreign media networks. The eastern triumph will also be commemorated in all Ministries and schools. Various ceremonies have been planned country wide and zones of defences. These include 'Bodhi Poojas', to bless the War Heroes. Official religious ceremonies will be held at Bellanwila Raja Maha Viharaya, Ramakrishna Hindu Kovil - Bambalapitiya and the Jumma Mosque in Maradana.
Peace loving citizens are requested to light a lamp at every house hold at 06.33p.m, tomorrow to commemorate the War Heroes who sacrificed their lives.
Meantime, Colombo City traffic Police officials said that, a special traffic plan will be in operation at the Torington Square from 06.30a.m to 12 noon. Therefore all commuters are requested to use alternative routes to avoid traffic, the officials further added.
