Leading Analyst Firm Rates Oracle® Very Strong Overall in Business Support Systems and Operations Support Systems for Communications Service Providers
Redwood Shores, Calif. – January 25, 2010

Gartner’s “Dataquest Insight: Business Support System Market Overview and Strategic Scorecard for Vendors, 2009” (http://www.gartner.com/technology/media-products/reprints/oracle/article115/article115.html) and “Dataquest Insight: Operations Support System Market Overview and Strategic Scorecard for Vendors, 2009 (http://www.gartner.com/technology/media-products/reprints/oracle/article118/article118.html)” rate Oracle as “Very Strong” overall. (1,2)
“Communications service providers require great flexibility and control in today’s increasingly competitive market. Oracle provides the most comprehensive suite of integrated solutions that enables service providers to rapidly offer differentiated services at a lower total cost of ownership. We believe our ‘Very Strong’ ratings in both BSS and OSS portfolios reflect Oracle’s commitment to delivering measurable business results to the communications industry,” said Bhaskar Gorti, senior vice president and general manager, Oracle Communications.

In Business Support Systems (BSS), Oracle received a rating of “Very Strong” in all seven categories: Product or Service, Market Understanding, Offering (Product) Strategy, Geographic Strategy, Sales Strategy, Market Responsiveness and Track Record and Overall Viability in 2009.

In Operations Support Systems (OSS), Gartner rated Oracle “Very Strong” in the following categories: Market Understanding, Offering (Product) Strategy and Overall Viability in 2009.
According to Gartner, “Demand for genuine off-the-shelf solutions built on a service-oriented architecture (SOA) is getting ‘louder,’ as CSPs [communications service providers] are re-evaluating opportunities to reduce costs.” (1)

Gartner also states, “A leadership position in the OSS market requires vendors not just to have best-in-class, standardized products, but also to offer strong professional services consulting and system integration by taking a holistic approach to CSPs' processes, organization and IT operations. All this needs to be complemented by long-term migration guidance.” (2)
