View Full Version : Attack on Ambalangoda temple is reflection of Rajapakse’s rage

Sri Sugathabimbarama Viharaya at Ambalangoda, where apolitical Common Candidate Gen. Sarath Fonseka had his initial religious education, was attacked yesterday (24th) night by a gang of thugs of UPFA candidate Mahinda Rajapakse and had destroyed property belonging to the temple. The supporters of Mahinda Rajapakse who had broken into the temple at about 12.50 last night had scolded Ven. Ambalangoda Vijithedhamma Thero, the incumbent of the temple in foul language and destroyed the doors and windows of the temple. When Gen. Sarath Fonseka visited Ambalangoda, his birthplace, he dropped in at the temple and Ven. Vijithedhamma Thero blessed him. After this incident the priest had been threatened several times and after he addressed the election rally of Gen. Fonseka the threats had increased. He had received anonymous telephone calls threatening him said the Thero. All parties have condemned the attack on the temple and the Thero while residents in the area say the attack is a reflection of Mahinda Rajapakse’s rage at the impending defeat at the presidential election. The media unit of the apolitical Common Candidate has issued a statement condemning th attck on the temple by Rajapakse’s thugs.
