LTTE terrorists attacked a jeep carrying a group of local tourists with a claymore mine in Wilpattu sanctuary on 27th May 2006 at around 05.30 in the morning. Total seven civilians were killed including the guide due to the attack.
The incident was initially brought in to notice of the officials by another group of tourists who had come across the tragic scene whilst on their safari at around 10.00 a.m. on the same day. Yet, it is reported that the workers of the national park had heard a large explosion around 5.30 a.m on the same morning. Two members who had come along with the group of tourists killed in the attack, did not participated for the fateful safari, are now being taken to the main office of the national park. Officials say that the identification of victims can not be confirmed until the two survivors reach the office.
The officials say that the location of the attack is approximately 40 km inside the sanctuary from the main entrance at HUNWILAGAMA. Now it has been confirmed that LTTE has deliberately carried out the attack targeting the civilians since the road is not being used by the security forces.
"LTTE wants to the national park to be closed, to do their activities freely in the jungle" one official explained. The national park was re-opened to visitors in year 2003; following the present ceasefire agreement was signed between the government and LTTE.
Meanwhile, S. Tamilselvan, the so called "political head" of LTTE, issuing a statement to pro terror media said that the LTTE will be forced to reconsider the relevance of the CFA to the present peace process if the EU bans the LTTE. But the incident shows how the terrorists respect the CFA even at the verge of being proscribed by the EU. The LTTE had to slaughter seven innocent civilians just to demand the closure of a National park.
All peace loving Sri Lankans hope that the international community will understand the barbaric nature of the LTTE, with whom the government has been negotiating during last few years. It is perfectly true that the lasting peace to the country can only be achieved through a political solution. But it is equally true that both parties to the conflict should be able to understand what politics means. We hope the international community will understand how civilized the LTTE is to take them to a negotiation table. It is the peace we need; we hope that the EU will take an effective decision that can tame this barbaric, uncivilized terrorist organization.
god..this ain't gonna end until the government decide to wipe 'em out or present 'em their North East territory..murdering tourists won't help them at all tho..god punish those who have sinned!
