Indian Coast Guard apprehended two Sri Lankan vessels which were found fishing in the waters off the Lakshadweep islands on January 29.

The fishing vessels-- 'Danilla' and Yamuna-- were found poaching off Minicoy island in India's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) during the first ever coastal security exercise in the strategically-located archipelagic waters of Lakshadweep islands, a coast guard release said here.

Coast guard, Indian Navy, Air Force and other stake holders of coastal security of the islands carried out the exercise.

Fresh fish catch of approximately 2,500 kg was recovered from Danilla with registration No IMUL-A-0088 KLT, which was in sea for 15-20 days. The other vessel had left Mirissa (Sri Lanka) on January 26, it said.

The two vessels, apprehended by Coast Guard ship 'Veera', are being towed to Kochi which is the nearst notified port under Maritime Zones of India Act (MZI) 1981.
