Maradana police OIC, Chief Inspector Amal Edirimanna was warned by the Panadura High Court Judge Malani Gunaratne for failing to produce a document relating to a murder case that came up for hearing.

The accused in the case Mahadurage Neelantha stands indicted with the killing of Dukgannaralalage Rathna Menike of Handapanagoda Ingiriya on March 18, 2002 and the case had been pending for eight years. The Judge warned Officers in Charge of police who ignore the court orders that they would be severely dealt with according to the law. She told the open court that the OICs of several police stations did not carry out court orders and that it affected the hearing of cases.

An official of the Sri Lanka National Hospital informed court that the relevant document was handed over to the hospital police post with a copy to the Maradana police. She said the original document handed over to the hospital police post could have been destroyed with the obsolete documents in the hospital record room. OIC Maradana police submitted his explanation in this regard which was not acceptable to the Judge. The Judge ordered the police official to produce the relevant document and postponed the case for April 24, 2010.
