Strategy of employing underworld gangs to assassinate political leaders has been exposed. This conspiracy came to light when Gampaha police took into custody 9 members of underworld gangs together with a leader of the tiger organization. The apprehended tiger member is Mahesh Sinnaiah.
On information given by them, under interrogation, police have found 9 T-56 rifles, 3 pistols and 300 cartridges hidden in a house. Investigations are continuing to find out whether there were any other weapons and whether there wee others who have had contact with them.
Tigers had planned to take batches of 25 members of the underworld to Kilinochchi for armed training.
