10 Indian fishermen were arrested Wednesday off Manner seas by Sri Lanka Navy ahead of Tamil National Movement leader P. Nedumaran's planned visit to Jaffna peninsular by sea despite both governments' objections.
Arrested fishermen have been handed over to Thalaimannar police with their 2 boats, navy officials says. There are no additional security steps in force in Northern waters despites Nedumaran's reported claims that he invaded the island's north to distribute what he called is "Humantarian Aid' to civilians in Jaffna peninsular, which is under the Sri Lanka military control since 1995.
G. Rajendran, Tamilnadu police chief says Neduamran would be taken in to custody if he tries to embark for Sri Lanka. Nedumaran, an influential figure in Southernindian politics has said he will leave for Sri lanka despite any resistance, from Nagapatnam coast by 04 boats with his supporters this morning.
