I can remember during the late 1980's (guess it was 1989, then I was in Nuwaraeliya) the Robyn Hood Series started screening in Sri Lanka. Actually today I was happened to watch Robyn hood (by chance..)and my memory ran towards that beautiful time and thought of sharing my experience with U all and U can do the same....
Those days me and my brother are very small and we cannot read.. so it was either my sister's or mother's duty to tell/recite the subtitles which were in Sinhala. U ought to look at my Sister...she was furious wen she has to tell the subtitles...cos she cannot focus on Michael Parade a.k.a. Robyn Hood. Not only that we acted each episode along with other younger people. Wow ! Nuwaraeliya was the perfect place for that. And near our house there was a small forrest and it was 100% misty out there and thus creating a "perfect Sherwood Jungle".
I played the role as Gisbourne, my brother is either Herne (we used to burn leaves and get the smoke!!)or Nasir (cos he loved waving swords!!), Shane played the Robyn hood and lateron Robert, there was a Huge boy (cant remember the name) he was the Little john, and there were few others.... and I hardly remember their faces even...............but as usual lady Marion was always my sister.
Oneday during a sword fight between Gisbourne (me) and Nazir (brother) I got wounded and I still have the scar in my face. And YES!!! that time we had Ponies and we used them as our horses.... I still can remember I had a completely black colour pony...once I fall from it as I tried to mount on him (or she...cant remember) and it got paniced and thus I ended up in the hospital. We had costumes too. Once my Mom shouted at us for destroying her fine & valuable sarees.
Our castles were either the Holiday home or our quarters. WOW!!! But as always the story ends in a fight....there are more to write... but since this is not a novel (a thread) I won't go into much detail. But all these memories are wonderful and very valuable...time to time wen I am in a pensive mood I remember all these memories as in a film srtip and ...I donno...I wish if I can go back to my childhood. My sister is no more interested in Michael Parade, she has found her "Robyn Hood" (husband) and my brother is no more into smoke, or swords, and I donno what happened to ther other crew and the ponies, the small forest is no more as its been used for a new housing scheme, both "castles" no more bear the antique look....they have been repaired, and I just look at all these changes in sadness, but as the Buddha said 'nothing is permanent" but still that magic wand calls me to the woods. Its the call of my childhood.
Robin of Loxley, aks 'The Hooded Man' lives with his friends in the forests of Sherwood. They fight against the Normandic rulers who oppress the population of the region, especially Prince John and the Sheriff of Nottingham.
Robin of Loxley was succeeded by Robert of Huntingdon, a renegade nobleman, at the beginning of series three. By gaining the trust of the other members of the group and living his life as Robin would have, he soon proves himself as a worthy successor.
This adaptation of the Robin Hood legend leans heavily on mystic and magic. This is also reinforced by the soundtrack of the Irish band Clannad.
Series Trivia
* The series was not meant to end with "Time of the Wolf" episodes. Another season, in which Marion was supposed to leave the monastery and finally marry Robin, was planned. However, due to short funds and some crew conflicts, the new episodes never went into production.
* The idea to make Gisbourne (Robert Addie) and the second Robin (Jason Connery) half-brothers came when it was noticed by the writers that they were the only cast members with blonde hair.
* Nasir was not originally supposed to be a recurring character. He was supposed to be killed by Little John in "Robin Hood & The Sorcerer", but the producers changed their minds at the last minute. It was Mark Ryan's idea for Nasir to be a quiet character.
* Following the departure of Michael Praed as Robin, both Neil Morrisey and Paul McGann were considered as replacements before the producers settled on Jason Connery

Robert Addie a.k.a Sir Guy of Gisbourne became both heart throb and homme fatale in the British film industry. He died aged just 43 (11-20-2003)as few weeks after learning that he had lung cancer. Thus ended my favourite character...
