බල්ලන් රජවූ විට....
Former Army Commander and Common Presidential Candidate General Sarath Fonseka was assaulted and dragged by his feet before being arrested by the Military Police a short while ago.
General Fonseka was at a discussion with SLMC Leader Rauf Hakeem, DPF Leader Mano Ganeshan, JVP Leader Somwansa Amerasinghe and Sunil Handunnetti when the Military Police had barged in and pushed the General on the floor.
Military Spokesperson Major General Prasad Samarasinghe had reportedly said that General Fonseka was arrested for committing military offences. The government for the past few weeks has been accusing General Fonseka of allegedly attempting a coup against President Mahinda Rajapaksa and his government, threatening national security and the assassination of The Sunday Leader Editor Lasantha Wickrematunge

The Military Police that arrested General Sarath Fonseka has also arrested his Secretary Senaka Arnold Haripriya Silva.
Commanding Officer of the Army’s Colombo Division Major General Sumith Manawadu had ordered the Military Police personnel who carried out the arrest.
The Military Police had forcibly entered into General Fonseka’s office where he was at a discussion with several political leaders. A senior Ministary Polcie officer who had walked in to the office had informed the general that he had received orders to arrest him. The General had responded saying that he could not be arrested. Major General Manawadu had walked into the room and shouted at the Military Police personnel to arrest the General saying, “What are you fellows looking at drag this fellow by his neck.” Seeing the General’s Secretary in the room, the Major General had said, “Here is the other fellow. Take him as well.”
The AFP photographer who had taken photographs of the General’s arrest was also attacked by the Military Police personnel before confiscating his camera equipment.
Major General Sumith Manawadu was the officer in charge of Mullaitivu during the Eelam War IV and he was transferred to the Army headquarters in Colombo by then Army Chief General Sarath Fonseka as punishment for issuing wrong orders to the ground troops, which resulted in the death of 117 soldiers in combat. The Major General has since been angry with the General.
Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa knew of this rift and used Major General Manawadu for several operations against General Fonseka. It was Major General Manawadu who also played the role of Commanding Officer in “Operation Trans Asia.”

Sources from the Army Headuqrters said that Defence Secretary had ordered the Army Commander to remove General Sarath Fonseka’s rank through the court marshal and bring him down to the status of an ordinary soldier.
The decision is to be taken after inquiring into the allegation of General Sarath Fonseka conspiring against the government and the President while serving as the Army Commander and the Chief of Defence Staff together with opposition politicians.
Reliable sources said the Defence Secretary has also proposed to the President to take away General Fonseka’s civic rights.

Sources from the Navy Headquarters said that General Sarath Fonseka who was arrested last night (8) is being held under strict security n a room at the Navy Headquarters. Sources said several leading military personnel had been torturing and questioning him from morning.
Sources further noted that General Fonseka had received wounds to his chest and right leg when he was being dragged forcibly out of his office and was treated by medical personnel.
DPF Leader Mano Ganeshan who was an eye witness to General Fonseka’s arrest said that he was dragged out of the room by Military Police personnel after tying his hands and legs and attacking him. Ganeshan said that the General resisted and his struggle also resulted in breaking a window in the office room.
