About 5/6 months back I was in a book shop here when I accidentally bumped into this melody playing there, I was looking for this ever since...

My favorite band is BNS too.. not because of anything just because I think their music suits my mood.. Anyone can take what's done before and make it better I beleive that's what BNS did...

But the issue is when you take someone else's work and modify you must give credits to that person(s), just like when you do a research you always can and have to use other people's work in certain circumstances but, you will always give reference to it at the end!! Which I didn't see BNS done so far for this song!!! And as fan I'm quite hurt for that !!!!

"me mallilath hariyata ape parana misussu tika wage, kisima history ekka nodena, research nokara assumptions walata gihin kiyawanawa" and walked off. Then I checked with some of the past members of the group from 10 years ago. so here goes.

"Wasanthaye" is a sinhala version of BACH's "air from suite no 3 in D" and this is mentioned in the credits of their album Wasanthaye which was launched in 1998. and no where do BNS claim its their composition, and any where a song is not their composition they have mentioned it. for this you have to buy their original albums though to read these info. pirate copies dont have these. Thats the short sroty.

Now do you guys know that Ranga Dasanayake, Bathiya and Santhush use to work together during 1997 and 1998. During these days it was a very difficult environment for any new age artiste to break through. The classical artistes use to suppres them a lot.

Both BNS where studting opera music at mary anne davids school where they where preacticing this BACH's piece back then. during this time ranga and BNS did this track and just realsed this to see if any new age kinda beats will work in Sri Lanka, and boom this was the birth of the new age music you guys see these days.

I'm thusara from the BNS studio's. we've been readint this thread for some time, and Bathiya his self had a big smile and didnt say anything each time I showed this to him, it pusled me as to why this was. At the end he told me that

"me mallilath hariyata ape parana misussu tika wage, kisima history ekka nodena, research nokara assumptions walata gihin kiyawanawa" and walked off. Then I checked with some of the past members of the group from 10 years ago. so here goes.

"Wasanthaye" is a sinhala version of BACH's "air from suite no 3 in D" and this is mentioned in the credits of their album Wasanthaye which was launched in 1998. and no where do BNS claim its their composition, and any where a song is not their composition they have mentioned it. for this you have to buy their original albums though to read these info. pirate copies dont have these. Thats the short sroty.

Now do you guys know that Ranga Dasanayake, Bathiya and Santhush use to work together during 1997 and 1998. During these days it was a very difficult environment for any new age artiste to break through. The classical artistes use to suppres them a lot.

Both BNS where studting opera music at mary anne davids school where they where preacticing this BACH's piece back then. during this time ranga and BNS did this track and just realsed this to see if any new age kinda beats will work in Sri Lanka, and boom this was the birth of the new age music you guys see these days.

Theres a big difference in Ripping stuff off & getting influences from other artists & songs..

Almost all artists in the world must have their influence on bands or artists who came before them..some will follow a particular music style which was introduced by a previous band and a whole new Genre will be born...But ripping a melody or style form a song and make a new track, calling it their own is bull shit..

Thats just stealing & to add salt to the wound..its just thinking the Sri Lankan listeners are dumb & they will never know about the original song in which they ripped it off from.. Thats just insulting :angry:

It doesn't matter wether its BnS or Iraj or even Kalahara..

But just because some part of a song sounds like something u have heard before doesn't mean that it was ripped off..(For example the start of Paranoid Earthling's 'Pull Me Under' sounds a hell of a lot like 'Nirvana'..but thats no surprise because Earthlings are a punk Metal Band & They have said openly that Niravana was a major influence.. and the rest of the song..ITs earthlings ALL the way...that is influence..not ripping off)

So if Rock Bands in SL can dish out Originals without ripping stuff off (They dare not..because they will get caught in minutes of doing so..) why cant r pop artists do the same ? Is it just lazinesses ? the knowledge that they could get away with it & nobody will care about it..It certainly seems to be the case when reading this forum judging by the majority of opinions..

My opinion is..dont let them get away with it... If u dont have a melody or an idea why ripp something off from another artist who had the original inspiration....if people are willing to pay money to buy your album then work hard to earn it.... We deserve originality from the local artists.... thats what we r paying for...

Guys, pls don't criticize these things severely. 'Coz, everything is changed ever & different people taste the same things in different ways (whatever the purposes they have). You don't have to say our generations (who born after 70's) do prefect & greatest things at every time. But, they have done some good stuff atleast to the minimum when comparing to the rest. Think about people like BnS, Iraj, Ranga D, Nilar N Casim, Duka, Nirosha Virajini, Kalum, Charith Senadheera & Kasun Kalhara (Ofcourse, he's the man). These our time's dudes have done a lot of better things, if u see them in a fair manner. :) :)
