Isn't the QX9650 a gaming platform  Or are they trying to test the market with the highest end quad core processor first.
As I remember the quad cores AMD is going to release, have only 6Mb of L2 cache. Also they have not implemented the 45nm production process.

They don't categorize it as a gaming CPU. It's just a multiplier unlocked CPU.

It is the same thing as with VGA cards. They release the enthusiast GPUs a long time before the mainstream and budget ones. People who have the money will definitely buy it, instead of a lower speed model and overclock it :D

Found it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phenom_(processor)

AMD Phenom FX-91 will have a speed of 2.4-to-2.6 GHz. The L2 cache is 512kb per core and 2MB L3 cache.
AMD touts they have a superior technology for the quad cores saying Intel just combined 2 dual cores to form their quad core range.

It doesn't matter how they implemented it, as long as they perform well. Core 2 Quads are work!

Oh! I need to pay attention about gaming consoles. :bangs head on keyboard:

A bundled XBox + Halo3 will give the best worth for the $999 the poor gamer has to pay.
