You guys are missing the point here. We shouldn't be proud of our expenditure... a small nation like ours doesn't have to have that big of a military budget. Hopefully we can get rid of the ltte dogs and use the money for the betterment of the country.

i no mucho after we chase these dogs government will hopefully use it to reconstruct a whole new business country so we can be lyk usa aus etc

yes i agree v hav 2 chase the dogs out 1st.
But i personaly belive that a countries military strength is a measurement of its prosperity.
Dont get me wrong im not saying military exoenditure is a gd thing. Im saying that the money shld b used for the betterment of the military as well as the ppl.

But i personaly belive that a countries military strength is a measurement of its prosperity.
I thought it was how many hospitals, doctors, engineers a country has... how good the roads are... how good the trasportation, communication systems are... what the literacy rate is... how high the GDP is.
I kind of understand your saying about a country needing a strong military but look at our neighbours.... unless maldives or nepal decides to invade us, we can't stop anyone else. So I believe it's better to use the money to better the infrastucture of the country. then people can produce more and then we can think about spending more on the military. Just my two cents

Just a reminder that Sri Lanka once invaded the whole of South India a long long time ago. And i beliv that if we had a strong military we wldnt hav sucumbed 2 de english.

My point exactly.. the tactics can't be developed by spending money on weapons. That comes from education and for that we need better schools and better teachers.
Well it was the technology and the bastard locals who supported the English that made us lose. They had guns and we didn't. And some of the locals betrayed the country. Just like some politician must be gatting a percentage of that 600 million wea re spending. Oh well.... can't kill them all :D

dats true machan. But take a look @ wats hepening in iraq. I mean the americans have better weapons, eqipment, and personal but still one could argue that they are loosing the battle in iraq.

I beg to differ machan. If America actually flex her military muscles Iraq would be a dust cloud. They chose bot to. It's not a US vs Iraq war it's a Iraq vs Terrorist thing. It's really hard to find a hit and hide war... just like what we have in SL. Why is it a 100000+ army can't win a 25 year old battle with 10000 ltte dogs. Because there is no direct target to attack. If they do a lot of innocent people will die. That's why we are not winnig with ltte and that's why US isn't winning with the Iraqi terrorists.

ok den lets just concider 4 a minite a SL with a lot les military spending. Do u think we cn hold off the LTTE then. I think not. I think that if we can improve our military capabilities we can then stabilize our nation. And through that we can improve our economy.
