Can somebody explain to me in simple plain English how to update the Firmware of my w810i?

I hate the internet when information overload happens, so EK gyus, I have turned to you. Please dont let me down!:)

Yep,
you can do this from www.davinciteam.com 4 sure. flash it to GENARIC SONY ERICCSON Main+Fs+Custmizing Pack. read the FAQ before do anything. instead you can try sony ericsson official site too and it is free of charge

There you have everything to Flash your SE W810 for free. no need to connect to internet.

All you need is DCU-60 usb data cable & W810 phone drivers (normaly comes with se pc tools), and correct flash files

install the software and connect the phone, select the right COM port (find it on the device manager->ports->sony ericsson-(COM2)

Finaly click on read phone Info (DO NOT CLICK ANY OTHER BUTTONS or your phone will go sleep 4ever) and read the firmware file information. (very very important)

Then post here the log with your FW file info, after that i will upload the latest version on rapidshare.
your flash file name looks like CID49 R1A005. read your flash file and post here.

instead you can avoid all the above troubles by paying some money and get it done by some expert
