Liberation Tigers of Tamil Ealam (LTTE) leader Velupillai Prbakaran has appointed the police chief of the rebel outfit P. Nadesan as the new head of the political division to replace S.P. Thamilchelvan who was killed in a Sri Lanka Air Force aerial attack yesterday.

Nadesan will lead two units of the rebel organization. He has accompanied the late political leader to the unsuccessful peace talks with the Sri Lankan government.

Nadesan, a former police officer of Sri Lanka is fluent in Sinhala and is married to a Sinhala woman.

Liberation Tigers of Tamileelam (LTTE) leader V. Pirapaharan has appointed P. Nadesan as the new Political Head following the demise of Brigadier S.P. Thamilchelvan, according to Irasiah Ilanthiryan, LTTE's military spokesman.

Mr Nadesan, who is currently in charge of Tamileelam Police, will be in charge of the two departments from now on, Ilanthirayan said.

The LTTE spokesman described the aerial attack by the Sri Lanka Air Force on Thamilchelvan's residence, a cowardly assassination.
