131 Officer Cadets including 26 Lady Officer Cadets joined the Sri Lanka Army as Second Lieutenants at a Commissioning ceremony held at the Sri Lanka Military Academy in Diyatalawa yesterday (22). The Passing-Out Parade was graced by the Secretary to the President, Mr. Lalith Weeratunga and the Army Commander, Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka. Defence Attaches of Diplomatic establishments, Senior Army Officers, parents and well wishes were also present.
Delivering his key note address, Mr. Lalith Weerathunga said that the newly commissioned officers will “become part of the great and proud machinery that will protect us from any internal or external threat”
“There cannot be any better profession than protecting one’s motherland”, he further added.
Among the newly commissioned officers were 32 Officer Cadets (Intake 62) who had joined the Sri Lanka Military Academy and received Bachelor’s Degrees in Military Studies from the Sabaragamuwa University.
Among the others who received commissioning in the Sri Lanka Army were 38 Officer Cadets of the Kotelawala Defence University (Intake 62B) who had successfully completed military training at the Sri Lanka Military Academy. Intake 62B includes a Lady Officer Cadet and two Maldivian Cadets.
23 Officer Cadets of Intake 63, 5 Lady Officer Cadets of Intake 8, 13 Voluntary Officer Cadets of Intake 44 and 20 Voluntary Lady Officer Cadets of Intake 6 also received commissioning in the Sri Lanka Army.
The President’s Award and the Trophy presented by the Signals Corps to the Officer Cadet Passing Out First in Order of Merit and the Sword of Honour presented to the Best All Round Officer Cadet of Intake 62 was warded to KTR Sirimanna.
The President’s Award and the Trophy presented by the Armoured Corp to the Officer Cadet Passing Out First in Order of Merit and the Sword of Honour presented to the Best All Round Officer Cadet of Intake 62B was warded to LNN De Silva.
