5730 has a qwerty keyboard. it has no touchscreen like the 5800.
So you'd have to decide what you need to use the phone for.
If you need it for fast typing like Emails, the 5730 is good. If you're using it for applications which require touch input, the 5800 is good.

Its what your requirement that matters. Well some people just buy the phone and never use its full features. If you just need the phone for show-off, 5800 is good for that! :D

'mediocre cam' means the 3.2MP Carl Zeiss optics camera only works good when theres good light.

In sunlight it will be gud, but indoors and low light levels it wont be that good. If you want a very GOOD camera phone better try another model.

Battery life is ok for a smart phone. In any smart phone You will not get very long battery life like usual phone ne. So if you use it normally (without many/long calls + internet usage) you wil get about 2days easily. Even can get more than 3days if you use VERY lightly i guess.

I got a Hungary one as well,but no problem of updating.

I think what the actual problem is, when Nokia releases Firmware updates they have different dates of availability to different regions.

ex: Some models issued to one market may get Firmware updates before other ones. But anyway when they come up with an update they'll give out to all models in different regions, only some can get a bit late to be released.

Only other reason a such thing can happen is some software glitch in that SPECIFIC phone unit (imho which is very unlikely).

BTW Problem with the sound level changing was a very old one, which affected first batches shipped when it was released.

It was due to improper connection of ear piece. It was corrected in 2009 February as I remember. Nokia replaced rear pieces of those affected units.

PS. I didnt encounter the color changing problem in my phone.

nokia 5800 is the great,my brother bought a phone.all the functions are great.in nokia 5730 there is a ribbon guys,don't take a risky phone.nokia 5800 is best if u use that carefully.how ever that 5800 dropped down.now both lcd and touch pad is cracked.repairing cost is about 10000,,, :) :)
