At least 22 civilians, including school children were killed and 45 wounded in a bomb blast that targeted a bus at Okkampitiya near Buttala in Monaragala district in Uva Province at 7:35 a.m. Wednesday, Police said. The blast comes as the top brass in the Sri Lankan military was trying to convince the government authorities in the South to shut down schools on a long term before launching wide-scale attacks on Vanni after abrogating the ceasefire. The 6-year-old ceasefire expires today.
