It is a widely acclaimed and acknowledged fact that the GSP + was a boon to the Country ‘s Industries directly and to the economy generally , but , with the Govt. fighting a losing battle with the European Community to retain the GSP + concessions , the entire Industrial sector , specially the Exporters are facing dismal and disastrous problems.
Already several Industries have been closed , and many thousands of workers now thrown to the streets. SL’s ceramic Industry too is faced with the same plight . The Chairman of the Industry has told that about 1100 workers will be rendered jobless , as the porcelain Industry is likely to lose its export market if the GSP + is withdrawn.
The GSP + concession gave the SL Industries the edge over the other exporting countries when the concession was available to them by providing duty free access for our Exporters to foreign European markets.
