Muttiah Muralitharan is once again at the centre of an unsavoury moment in Australia with an egg being thrown at the car he was traveling in at Hobart this week.
Sri Lankan team manager Shriyan Samararatne confirmed the incident happened on Thursday night and said the egg hit one of the Sri Lankan selectors.
Samararatne denied reports the egg had actually struck the controversial off-spinner in the face.
"A group of four was walking from a restaurant to the team hotel and an egg was thrown at them from a car but I am not sure if they recognised Murali," Samararatne said.
"I don't know the exact motive. I doubt whether they recognised Murali but unfortunately he was there.
"We told Cricket Australia about it and they were very upset."
Samararatne said because the vehicle from which the egg was thrown was travelling at speed at night it was difficult to be certain that Muralitharan had been targeted.
He said the team had had no problems in Hobart during their stay for the second Test in the two-match series against Australia in November.
Sri Lanka open their one-day tri-series campaign in a day-night match against India on Tuesday in Brisbane.
Meanwhile Tasmania defeated the Sri Lankans by seven wickets in a one-day tour match at the Bellerive Oval today.
