What is Zend?:confused:

ZEND is the company that has the legal ownership for PHP Language now. And you have doubt about why Zend for PHP and also why this company has the leadership for PHP coz it’s an open source Language? So, how can ONE company lead the world one of prestige language? Ok, here’s the brief description of the Zend Company background. Andi Gutmans and Zeev Suraski, the founders of Zend Engine. They developed an open source platform specially designed for PHP even though it’s an open source. Because of Zend Engine Internationally recognized, they continued to fight the battle among PHP and open source communities. So today, by little by little, they became the honour possessor for PHP Language.


What is PHP, HyperText PreProcessor?:nerd:

MAY BE you all know PHP is one of world leading web scripting language.Yep, it’s true. But not only that.Because of PHP is an open source language, it becomes more and more advance in day by day.In early days, PHP is not developed within shortest time but now it’s not. PHP becoming the most powerful language in the world. Another reason for that is PHP web servers are cheaper than other web languages. If we consider, 90% out of web service
providers using PHP as their Back End scripting LanLanguage coz of the security, user friendliness and many of other features.


Language Versions.:yes:

AT this moment, Zend Inc developing two versions of
PHP.One is PHP 4 & the other one is PHP 5. Why two versions for a same language? It’s simply because of this. Before Zend Company gets the ownership, lot of PHP engineers used PHP 4 version for their back end works. But after Zend Engine developed, the Zend Company released a new version of PHP called PHP 5. They avoid lot of holes in PHP 4. For eg. The use of XML (extensible markup language) is very poor in PHP 4. But in PHP5, it’s very easy to deal with XML. And the other hand, they added more features like Object Oriented concepts, ( Now there is a problem for you that is PHP can develop standalone applications too? Yep, bit correct, but it’s in developing stage ), magic methods, constants, constructs an so on in PHP5.And PHP.NET verifies that the end of PHP 4 version on 03rdJanuary 2008. Previously,we discussed about what is Zend,What is PHP
and so on.So now,we’ll talk about PHP Basics…,


We want a platform to run PHP script files in our web browser. It’s just like, for train, it wants railways to run. As like, PHP also wants a platform to run PHP Scripts files with Zend Engine. As default, we need a web server software as platform and PHP Language resources for run PHP files. MY recommended bundle pack is “XAMPP ( Apache, MySQL, PHP & Perl ). You can download this software through http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html (http://switch.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/xampp/xampp-win32-1.6.5-installer.exe)


Installing / Configuring XAMPP

Proceed the steps.(As Given)

Open Your Web Browser.In Address Bar,Type http://localhost. You’ll Get a Chance to Choose Language. Click
English and Then You’ll Get a Window Like Below.

Before you begin, we'll discuss about the things, you know as well as you don't know about PHP.


PHP Tags

There are four PHP tags available.


Standard Tags

<?php

Standard tags are the best solution for portability and backwards compatibility, because they are guaranteed to be available and cannot be disabled by changing PHP’s configuration file.

Eg 1.

echo ‘Hello World’;
?>


Short Tags

?>

Short tags were, for a time, the standard in the PHP world; however, they do have the major drawback of conflicting with XML headers and, therefore, have somewhat fallen by the wayside. Their other advantage is the availability of the short form <?=$variable ?> syntax, which allows you to print the result of an expression directly to the script’s output.

Eg 2.

Script Tags

<scripting language=”php”>

Script tags were introduced so that HTML editors which were able to ignore JavaScript but were unable to cope with the standard PHP tags could also ignore the PHP code.

ASP Tags

Nobody quite understands why ASP tags were introduced—however, if you are so inclined you can turn on this optional configuration option, and you are free to use them.

You want to edit php.ini before you try this. IF you already installed xampp, go to C:\xampp\apache\bin and open php.ini with notepad.Then press Crtl+F,then there will be a search bar in that search bar type asp_tags then you will get the 1st screen shot imgae below.Change the ASP tags off --> On. Then Restart Apache. To do that, you must open the xampp control panel. There is a button called stop. When you press it, it convert to start again. Then Press Start Button Again. ;)

Note that, as long as your copy of PHP has been configured to support more than one type of opening and closing tags, you can mix and match opening and closing tags from different families. But it’s not a good programming practice.
