Read it all here: http://cybernetnews.com/2008/02/25/firefox-3-performance-gets-a-boost/

That's a pretty huge boost from beta 3 to beta 4 (or final).

Most addons can be tricked to work in Firefox 3, using Nightly Tester Tools and diabling the checking of "Secure Updates". Google and find out :P

Firefox 2 is a piece of crap!

The first line is GREEK for me...
The second, well...have been using it for one and a half years...no trouble encountered....

Opinions change fast when you switch boats....

Bet you used FF2 at some point of time....:D :D

Of course had to use it when there wasn't an alternative :P
Now Opera is doing well, I think I can stick to it. But if Firefox gives the same performance as Opera, I will switch the boats again. Here, I'm not talking about the web performance ONLY. Of course its caching and the JS performance is much superior to Firefox (Opera 9.26 vs Firefox 2.0.0.12) and it uses a lot less memory too, but the main difference I see in terms of performance is the feeling you get when you use the two browsers. I feel Firefox is very heavy and has a lot of inertia. Opera is smooth and fast and feels as if it is very light weighted.

Kestrel still has some problems, just like Firefox 3. I'm waiting for the final releases of both products to compare and embrace the one that gives best return.

Agree...I got the same feeling when I was using SEA MONKEY, mozilla's other browser....It has an ancient looking windows 98 kinda interface....but when you use it you get the feeling "dude this is fast"....but can't stick to it....FF has forced me into their web... ;) :D

I just ran the tests on a virtual PC with Opera Kestrel latest build and Firefox nightly (not even the further optimized one) and I scored:

Opera: 6642.8ms +/- 4.7%
Firefox: 3788.2ms +/- 3.1%

That's pretty hardcore! Opera used to nail everything out there, up until now. And this is on Kestrel! Amazing. Time to test the PGO one :D

Remember, it depends on the processor as well. You should compare them on the same system.

I don't care if I am the only Opera user in the whole world! Firefox was unusable for me. Constantly going upto 450MB RAM usage, and virtually stops working (i.e. becomes so slow) Opera hasn't. But Firefox 3 also hasn't given that problem. But it is still beta. Maybe when the final is released, I will switch. Can't say anything at the moment.

yeap firefox uses gobs of memory, FF3 has fixed this and FF3 is also the first firefox to Pass the W3C ACID2 test..and currently the only browser that pass that test is Opera

That was mostly due to JS issues. When you browse websites that have a lot of JS, Firefox gets mad, and drives us mad too :D

Firefox is a lot better than IE7 when it comes to memory usage......(In Vista)

Firefox with Ogame memory usage is 670
IE7 with Ogame memory usage is 691

Anyway, nobody passes ACID3 yet. Opera Kestrel scores 54/100 here, and Firefox scores 67/100. But the rendered image is better looking on Opera.

However, Opera crashes after a few seconds when running those tests. :S
