The official theme song for the FIFA World Cup South Africa 2010, by the Somalian artist K'naan....

Waving Flag -

When I get older, I will be stronger
They’ll call me freedom, just like a Waving Flag
When I get older, I will be stronger
They’ll call me freedom, just like a Waving Flag
And then it goes back, and then it goes back
And then it goes back
Born to a throne, stronger than Rome
But Violent prone, poor people zone
But it’s my home, all I have known
Where I got grown, streets we would roam
But out of the darkness, I came the farthest
Among the hardest survival
Learn from these streets, it can be bleak
Except no defeat, surrender retreat
So we struggling, fighting to eat and
We wondering when we’ll be free
So we patiently wait, for that fateful day
It’s not far away, so for now we say
When I get older, I will be stronger
They’ll call me freedom, just like a Waving Flag
And then it goes back, and then it goes back
And then it goes back
So many wars, settling scores
Bringing us promises, leaving us poor
I heard them say, love is the way
Love is the answer, that’s what they say,
But look how they treat us, make us believers
We fight their battles, then they deceive us
Try to control us, they couldn’t hold us
Cause we just move forward like Buffalo Soldiers
But we struggling, fighting to eat
And we wondering, when we’ll be free
So we patiently wait, for that faithful day
It’s not far away, but for now we say
When I get older, I will be stronger
They’ll call me freedom, just like a Waving Flag
And then it goes back, and then it goes back
And then it goes back
When I get older, I will be stronger
They’ll call me freedom, just like a Waving Flag
And then it goes back, and then it goes back
And then it goes back
(Ohhhh Ohhhh Ohhhhh Ohhhh)
And everybody will be singing it
(Ohhhh Ohhhh Ohhhhh Ohhhh)
And you and I will be singing it
(Ohhhh Ohhhh Ohhhhh Ohhhh)
And we all will be singing it
(Ohhh Ohh Ohh Ohh)
When I get older, I will be stronger
They’ll call me freedom, just like a Waving Flag
And then it goes back, and then it goes back
And then it goes back
When I get older, I will be stronger
They’ll call me freedom, just like a Waving Flag
And then it goes back, and then it goes back
And then it goes back
When I get older, when I get older
I will be stronger, just like a Waving Flag
Just like a Waving Flag, just like a Waving flag
Flag, flag, Just like a Waving Flag.

Michael Ballack Will Miss World Cup 2010 :(:(:dull:

May 17, 2010

Chelsea’s Michael Ballack, left, grasping his ankle after a late tackle by Portsmouth’s Kevin-Prince Boateng on Saturday. Ballack’s ankle was so severely swollen that doctors put off an initial scan until Monday.

http://www.thejakartaglobe.com/media/images/large/20100517205654824.jpg

Germany’s World Cup hopes suffered a severe blow on Monday when captain Michael Ballack was ruled out of the finals in South Africa with an ankle injury.

It was also a personal setback for the 33-year-old Ballack, who was set to play at his third World Cup and is unlikely to get another chance to perform on the sport’s biggest stage.

Chelsea midfielder Ballack was injured in the first half of Saturday’s English FA Cup final against Portsmouth, limping off during the first half of his team’s 1-0 win after a late tackle by Kevin-Prince Boateng, who was booked.

The ankle was so badly swollen that a planned MRI scan on Sunday had to be postponed until Monday morning.

Fernando Torres is on course to be back to full fitness for the World Cup finals after training with the Spain squad for the first time on Thursday.

http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/images/2010/0527/fernandotorresspaintrain20100527_275x155.jpg

Torres, who has been out with a knee injury which required surgery in mid-April, has been dogged by injuries over the past two seasons and there were doubts about his chances of playing in South Africa.

The striker will now hope to be available when Spain kick off their World Cup campaign against Switzerland on June 16.

Torres took part in the light training session, and the fact that he was able to join in with the rest of the squad before they fly to their Austrian training camp on Friday is an indication that he should make the opening match.

Torres' return has been welcomed by his team-mates, with Barcelona defender Gerard Pique saying: "It's great to have Fernando training with us. This is an important player for us and hopefully he can be ready for the first World Cup match."

Valencia winger Juan Mata added: "He is eager to start training and says he will be fit for the opener. This is good news."

William Gallas proved he is edging back to full fitness with a second half equaliser as France battled to a 1-1 draw in Tunisia in their latest World Cup warm-up game on Sunday.

http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/images/2010/0530/williamgallascelebvtunisia_275x155.jpg

Centre back Gallas, who had been a doubtful starter for the World Cup because of a sore calf muscle, reassured coach Raymond Domenech by heading home a Yoann Gourcuff free kick on 63 minutes to save the ex-world and European champions from defeat.

Tunisia fought bravely, opening the scoring on five minutes through forward Issam Jemaa, but France, still needing time to adapt to the new, 4-3-3 system they had introduced in a 2-1 win over Costa Rica on Wednesday, improved gradually.

Sven-Goran Eriksson's first match at the Ivory Coast helm finished in a 2-2 draw against Paraguay as the two World Cup qualifiers fine-tuned their preparations in Thonon Les-Bains, France.

Chelsea striker Didier Drogba opened the scoring for the Elephants nine minutes after the break when he netted his 44th international goal with a deflected free-kick, and Hibernian defender Sol Bamba extended their advantage with a 74th-minute volley.

But substitute Lucas Barrios pulled one back for the South Americans with a low shot a minute later and Aureliano Torres equalised a minute from time to deny Eriksson a winning start to his regime.

England needed two late own goals from Japan defenders Marcus Tanaka and Yuji Nakazawa to gain a 2-1 victory in their final World Cup warm-up match in Graz.

Tanaka had stunned England by giving Japan a seventh-minute lead and Fabio Capello's side looked uncertain at the back.

But Tanaka levelled matters when deflecting in a cross from Joe Cole and then Nakazawa suffered the same fate from a centre by Ashley Cole.

Belarus midfielder Syarhey Kislyak's 53rd-minute goal gave his side a 1-0 victory over World Cup qualifier South Korea.

The win ended South Korea's four-match winning streak, which included victories over fellow World Cup hopefuls Ivory Coast and Japan.

Mexico warmed up for the Finals with a 5-1 victory over Gambia thanks to two goals apiece from Javier Hernandez and Adolfo Bautista.

Hernandez gave Mexico a 1-0 half-time lead and doubled it five minutes into the second half. Bautista then scored his first, before Gambia earned their only goal through Ebrima Sohna's header in the 65th after a corner.

Bautista connected at the far post to make it 4-1 and Alberto Medina slotted home from the left after a counterattack to complete the win.

Chile continued their World Cup preparations with a comfortable 1-0 victory over an inexperienced Northern Ireland side in Chillan.

Esteban Paredes got the only goal of the game for the South Americans as his far-post header on the half-hour mark secured the spoils.

Spain midfielder Xavi claims that England represent the biggest threat to his side at this summer's World Cup - not the likes of Brazil, Argentina, or current champions Italy.

http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/images/2009/1030/xavi20091030iniesta_275x155.jpg

Xavi is seen as one of the best midfielders in the world and will be a key player for Spain in South Africa and, while he expects his side are the favourites to land the trophy, he thinks Fabio Capello's men come a close second.

''People say that the strongest nation on paper is Spain - but after us I really think it is England,'' he told the Daily Star. ''Perhaps their goalkeepers aren't world class but apart from that you struggle to see a weakness."

Xavi, 30, has formed a great partnership with fellow Barcelona team-mate Andres Iniesta in midfield, but also believes that the English side have players to match them.

"The World Cup isn't won on paper but after us I think England have the second-best team,'' he said. ''It's not a surprise really when you consider so much of the England set-up is made up of players from Manchester United and Chelsea.

''Over the last five years they have been the strongest teams in Europe alongside Barcelona, so with a nation full of their players it comes as no surprise they are so strong. There is Lionel Messi then a group of players behind him and Wayne Rooney is in that group. Rooney particularly impresses me.

''The spine of England's team is very strong. John Terry, Frank Lampard and Rooney are all among the best in their positions in the world.

''Like Spain, England need to start believing that they can win a major tournament. If they do that with the players they have, they will be very dangerous. After so many years of hurt and disappointment you have to get the belief back, without it you won't win anything.''

Julio Cesar is not satisfied with World Cup ball :baffled::baffled:

http://www.world2010cup.com/pictures/news/adidas-jabulani-325.jpg

Goalkeeper of the Brazilian soccer team, Julio Cesar, said today that he is not satisfied with the balls for World Cup 2010, pointing out that they look as they were purchased in the supermarket.

On the training he said that ball is "horrible".

During the World Cup in South Africa, from 11 June to 11 July, the game will be played with ball called "jabulani", which means "to celebrate" on the language of the Zulu.

Caesar did not want to explain why he is not satisfied, but that said: "they always want to make job difficult for goalkeepers."

Brazil National team will compete at FIFA World Cup in group G, with the teams of North Korea, the Ivory Coast and Portugal.

Spain vs. Saudia Arabia friendly, 3 - 2

http://www.world2010cup.com/pictures/news/spain-soccer-team-324.jpg

The European champions played in Tivoli friendly match against Saudi Arabia, but with a lot of changes in team they celebrated only with one gola difference, 3 – 2.

For Spain played their best players - Casillas, Puyo, Ramos, Arbeloa, Piquea, Xavija, Alonso, Iniesta, David Silva, David Villa and Busquets, and later in the game came: Navas, Carlos Marchen, Pedro, Joan Capdevilla, Fernando Llorente i Javi Martinez.

Saudi Arabia, despite this, better started the match and could have lead in the 8th minute, when, face to face with Casillas, Hazazi was imprecise. However, field dominance that they have established has resulted with goal, which was scored by Osama Hawsawi in 15th minute of the match.

David Villa until the end of halftime, with the help of Andres Iniesta, finally managed to flatten the result, while Xabi Alonso in the 59th minute scored and for the first time turn Spain to led.

However, in the 74th minutes guest squad scored again. Scorer was Mohamed Al-Sahlawi from the edge of the penalty area.
Spaniards until the end of match desperately trying to get to the victory, and finally, in the 90th minute of the match, Llorente accomplished this goal.

England vs. Japan friendly 2-1, the victory without any goal scored

http://www.world2010cup.com/pictures/news/england-vs-japan-326.jpg

In their last match before the World Cup 2010 England team won Japan with result 2-1.

However, it is interesting that the English team did not achieve any goal. In fact, all three goals were scored by the players of Japan, but unfortunately for them, two goals were own goals.:oo::rofl:

Japan took the lead very early, in the 7th minute of the match and the scorer was Marcus Tanaka. This was followed by long period without any goals.

But in the 73rd minute Marcus Tanaka scored again, but this time to his own team. The last goal for the final victory of the England, Japan’s second own goal, has scored Yuji Nakazawa in the 83 minute of the game.

Mention that the English had one penalty kick, performed by Frank Lampard, but the Japanese goalkeeper was successfully saved this shoot.

What is not written in this article is that FIFA asks Adidas to develop faster balls before every World Cup. The reason? More goals, at the cost of angry players and goalkeepers. What FIFA doesn't want in a World Cup is games ending up in draws - which may be satisfactory to some teams, but not for TV ratings and fans. Faster ball: pure marketing. The sad side of this is that a faster ball means it is also harder to control, and consequently to drible - in the end, it takes the art of the game away.

Lionel Messi is optimistic about World Cup 2010

http://www.world2010cup.com/pictures/news/lionel-messi-328.jpg

Lionel Messi, one of the best players in the Argentine team, is very optimistic about the performance of Argentina at the World Cup 2010. Although Argentina did not play the World Cup final since 1986, Messi believes Argentina this year can win the trophy.

"I must admit that I'm looking forward to upcoming World Cup with a dose of optimism, I see no reason why Argentina could not won the World Cup trophy", said Mesi

"Our team has enough quality players and this is the most important. We are not annoyed at all not to be considered favourites. It could be a positive for us", he continued.

"We do not care what others think. We want to achieve a good result on the World Cup 2010. Qualifiers are far behind us now, we are relaxed. We will see if that brings a change in our playing style.

Waving Flag -

When I get older, I will be stronger
They’ll call me freedom, just like a Waving Flag
When I get older, I will be stronger
They’ll call me freedom, just like a Waving Flag
And then it goes back, and then it goes back
And then it goes back
Born to a throne, stronger than Rome
But Violent prone, poor people zone
But it’s my home, all I have known
Where I got grown, streets we would roam
But out of the darkness, I came the farthest
Among the hardest survival
Learn from these streets, it can be bleak
Except no defeat, surrender retreat
So we struggling, fighting to eat and
We wondering when we’ll be free
So we patiently wait, for that fateful day
It’s not far away, so for now we say
When I get older, I will be stronger
They’ll call me freedom, just like a Waving Flag
And then it goes back, and then it goes back
And then it goes back
So many wars, settling scores
Bringing us promises, leaving us poor
I heard them say, love is the way
Love is the answer, that’s what they say,
But look how they treat us, make us believers
We fight their battles, then they deceive us
Try to control us, they couldn’t hold us
Cause we just move forward like Buffalo Soldiers
But we struggling, fighting to eat
And we wondering, when we’ll be free
So we patiently wait, for that faithful day
It’s not far away, but for now we say
When I get older, I will be stronger
They’ll call me freedom, just like a Waving Flag
And then it goes back, and then it goes back
And then it goes back
When I get older, I will be stronger
They’ll call me freedom, just like a Waving Flag
And then it goes back, and then it goes back
And then it goes back
(Ohhhh Ohhhh Ohhhhh Ohhhh)
And everybody will be singing it
(Ohhhh Ohhhh Ohhhhh Ohhhh)
And you and I will be singing it
(Ohhhh Ohhhh Ohhhhh Ohhhh)
And we all will be singing it
(Ohhh Ohh Ohh Ohh)
When I get older, I will be stronger
They’ll call me freedom, just like a Waving Flag
And then it goes back, and then it goes back
And then it goes back
When I get older, I will be stronger
They’ll call me freedom, just like a Waving Flag
And then it goes back, and then it goes back
And then it goes back
When I get older, when I get older
I will be stronger, just like a Waving Flag
Just like a Waving Flag, just like a Waving flag
Flag, flag, Just like a Waving Flag.
