Some of my elakiri brothers & sisters know that my wife is pregnant right now. Well, i want to extend her visa so she doesn't have to travel while she is pregnant and she can give birth in England.
The home office in London (who deals with visa's) have said that being pregnant is not a good enough reason to stay! Mokadda karranne? Her flight ticket is valid until may and her visa expires in june. For me to make an application to stay will cost 1 lakhs- and that is not guaranteed that she will be allowed to stay! I want to be with her when she is pregnant, when she gives birth and through our baby's early years. But i need to stay here to work to feed me, my family and also send money to Ragama for Amma. I need to get the visa extended.. Any ideas please? Anyone understand the British system? Help! :(

What is the duration of her current visa? is it 180 days?

Yes, 6 months, nangi. The baby's not due until september the 16th.

How bout trying through an immigration lawyer ?? If they want something more than a pregnancy ; probably a lawyer can make it work. It works like this : English do not like foreign origin to give birth to a child on their soil.
What are you doing ? Are you a permanent full time worker ? As you are the husband and the carer Home Office have no excuse but grant her the visas. Apply through a lawyer mate.

i dont know the British low..
but i know that its a real risk to fly while pregnant..
so can you make up a story with some medical facts..
like your wife got high blood pressure and stuff..
so its too much risky to travel or something..
you can ask them from a doctor..
feel really sorry for you..

If you apply for an extension of her visa, mentioning pregnancy as a reason will definitely give you a negative result. So figure out some other reason to stay on like further visiting of the country.

I have no idea about British Immigration system, but I think if you apply for a visa extension, till you get a reply from the Immigration your stay is legal even if your original date is past. ( This is how US system works)

Usually in here it takes 2 to 3 months to get a response from the immigration.

So basically you can buy some time by applying couple of weeks before the expiration date.

I have a Sri Lankan friend live in UK, I think he may be in a better position to advice you.

If you fight for your rights with emabassies or any other offices right now, it will create some defficulties.

I can understand your situation.

Did you apply for citizenship? even if you apply for it she can stay. Because of the proccessing time. If you didn't just apply and don't try to say she is pregnant or need to extend visas.

I would suggest you to visit Sri Lanka for short time and apply for new visa. But you better to find out more information. As I know most of officers in British high commission in Colombo are so nice. I think go back to Sri Lanka also hard physically and financially.

Another way to find a good doctor and get a report wich saying she need some bed rest or something like that. But I don't know how it will work.

Better to apply for citizenship and get a temp stay permit. You must apply before her visa expired.

Good luck and be caferful before you pass any information for this preccess.

Convice in the presence situation it'll be harmful for the un born baby to be on a high altitude flight. And might harm the mother as well.

You can only use this at last resource at the last minute. As I you said the due date is on september. Isn't it ??

Get some medicle records from family doctor as well. Recommending not to fly or travel distance.

I'll think more and message you soon. Read some forums bout this if available. I'm sure you wont be the only one going through this

About lawyers >>>

Make sure they know bout the immigration law

Talk to the local newspaper. Talk to a freelancer.

Act like a Smart Sri Lanka. Home Office doesn't like any unneccessary publicity or mud on their face.

Why do you think taking a medical certificate from a doctor and dirrect talk to a lawyer bcoz i think that is a human right to stay with ur wife if you are married and as i know they give priority to babies and senior people. Otherwise you go and talk to the immigration dirrectly they will understand ur problem. i'm staying in Australia so i think the rules are same as here. so just try!

In Aussie things are so different than English. Aussies ain't think like English. They are more unserstandable and respect each other. But the Home Office of England act inhuman in this matter. Its better take this case to the court. I'm sure involving politics and law and humanity will give him justice,

Machang, how pregnant is your wife?..i mean how many weeks etc? the reason I am asking is, normally after 28-30th weeks Doctors dont recommend pregnant ladies to travel overseas. Even the Air Lines do not allow heavily preganant women to travel. So, you can try both sources..

So, if she falls in to that category, you can easily get a letter from a doctor saying its risky for herself and the unborn baby to travel overseas hence should stay until the delivery. On the otherhand, if you can explain your story for your family doctor, you might be able to get the same letter..

Once you get the letter/s, talk to someone @ british immigration (preferbly in person) and explain him/her your situation and submit the letter from doctor and other documents. They might be able to give her a bridging visa until the child birth which will also give you more time to find an immigration lawyer and prepare the residency documents.
