Can any one explain to me what SLI means...and how dose it work?
Acronym for Scalable Link Interface
NVIDIA SLI (Scalable Link Interface)technology links two graphics cards together to provide scalability and increased performance. NVIDIA SLI takes advantage of the increased bandwidth of the PCI Express bus architecture, and features hardware and software innovations within NVIDIA GPUs (graphics processing units) and NVIDIA MCPs (media and communications processors). Depending on the application, NVIDIA SLI can deliver as much as two times the performance of a single GPU configuration.

But the the agp card has one out put for a monitor ne?whats the difference normal pciexpress agp cards and these SLi cards(money vise?) and if i wher to buy an SLI card will i be able to use 2 monitors(desktop devided in to 2 screens) cos i need a second monitor to see the video witch im editing on monitor 1....
machan if you not in to much gaming or game/3D programming i think you don’t need such powerful VGA card. 3ds max, video/audio editing requires lot of RAM and processor power. You got to buy some fast hard disk. That will give really good performance boost
SURE! U CAN MACHAN

machan rapa the card seems to have 2 outputs for 2 monitors,i assume this has SLI technology...but i didnt quite get what gtrz said...cos i am intending to use this machine for very power hungry tasks such as huge renderings(for Eg my friend has a P4 2.9Ghz - 1GB - Intel MB - 120SATA - PCI Express(onboard) mechine, and he has this software called "Particle Illution"it creates Graphics similar to winamp plugins, and to render a 30 second clip would take about -12-18 hours....so im expecting a drastic difference from the machine im going to buy....so thats why i need the perfectly balanced machine...

With SLI enabled u can only use one monitor...

ok as for my last question for this evening, have any of you guys played the latest edition of NFS(not carbon) in full throttle(all the settings on high-details) and how was it when SLI was enabled? did u still have to overclock?
So if i aim for a good gaming PC i assume both my requirements will be fullfilled...?
then ill leave it up to you guys..give me a good configureation..and ill buy it..;)
[but ill need the full details cos im giving this information to one of my uncles in singapore]

Dude, this chart shows how important it is to have a really good CPU with a 8800 GTX.
GeForce 8800GTX - Farcry Benchmark. \/

As u can see, to get a mid ranged score u'll hv to get an Intel C2D E6600 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819115003) & it'll still cost u around 300$!
Even the X6800 is bottlenecking the 8800GTX (Stock X6800 got 133 fps in 1024x768 & the oc'ed X6800 got 149FPS!)
My point is, there is no use of buying a high-end GPU if u're not getting a good CPU(Still u'll hv to OC It! )

all the stats you guys have posted, has given me a chance to understand the current the technology...but im not that good in high tec...so i think it would help if either one of you posts youre own configureations(within a budjet of 1lak),witch will give me a chance to have a better idea.i also have been doing some checking in the net...it seems like all the gaming pc's are AMD...is there a specific reason...and how practical would it be for us who live in SL...

Dude.. basically for ya requirements i would recommend a Core 2 Duo processor, min of 2GB DDR2 based RAM, 300 GB 7200 RPM HD, DVD-Writer plus for and all around graphics performance at an effective price a nVidia 7950 GT.. the price of the colour card is bound to come down at a quick pace in the near future so patience....
SLI does not necessary give ya double performance since ya get 2 colour cards working but approximately 75 to 85% improvement over a single card solution.. getting colour cards are way costly here so i recommend ya to order online..
as for the mobo, ya could go 4 a mid-end Gigabyte DS2 type mobo or else a high end one would be the ASUS line of mobos (reliable stuf mind ya!)...
the 1lakh barrier would be intruding in building a proper powerful machine dude.. am sure ya could achieve better performance via a system built below 150k...
