PLEAZE HELP,
I got a ZTE XDSL 852 modem free from SLT but then to c it is not working at all so I went 2 SLT and they gave another modem of the same kind(free) but this one is also not working in windows VISTA when installing driver vista gets crash.In XP also it gets disconnected all the time especcially when I use firefox it get disconnecteed but can use IE for some time without disconnecting.And sometimes when I use the CPU l(processor) lot it gets disconnected. The SLT people came and check the telephone lines and they said its OK and there is a available speed of 2050 kbps. And some times when the modem gets heated it dosent connect at all so I have to put the air conditioner at full blast when surfing the net. AND I want 2 know what r da benifits of ADSL router.

go for a router and you are out of trouble. You can freely install any OS witout worrying.

Adsl router will release you from those issues, it connects to your PC's LAN interface and it will be transparent to your PC. All you have to do is to verify the drivers of your LAN card working with your target OS. And also router connects to internet and you can even restart the PC without losing connection, and addition to that if you buy a multi-port router you can connect multiple PCs at the same time to the internet.

Heating is there and you have to make sure router is properly ventelated, but for me its working fine.

buy a router....its very easy,only needing is network port and just plug in and switch on and use net

U can use router to connect internet with out any third party software. For modem, you have install drivers.

Only 95% of times. There are certain old router models that do not work correctly with Vista.

The best thing to do it to check for Vista compatible logo before buying a router (or anything for that matter)
