It seems nvidias new GTX200 drivers modify some files of 3Dmark vantage so the Driver can offload the Physics instructions to the GPU...i mean that sucks, its so low

I read the news @ Vr-Zone.com & another story is nVIDIA hire the hacked ATI physics driver developer & they pay for hacking . Bad move by nvidia . I'm expecting another court case about both incidents

I also first thought it was cheating. But with careful consideration, I think they are not. If they can use a FEATURE in the VGA to improve performance, then it is not cheating! What I call cheating is reducing image quality to gain more performance, or that sort of thing.

DUUUUUUUUUUH its cheating to modify the bloody files without asking the end user first....and the installer dont fix the files when u uninstall the drivers. so its cheating

Are they using that FEATURE in other games as well (modifying the game files and download physics to VGA). Or it does only on 3DMark, if it only do such thing in 3DMark that's for sure cheating for get higher marks.

They are not cheating. The games that support physics processing, show great performance increases. UT3 is one such game. There is already a patch available for UT3 to enable Physics in nVidia cards.

It's not pure cheating, but it's sort of cheating. Because you have very handful number of games that support physics processing. And If you put that feature in benchmarking purposes, those benchmark results are valid for games that support physics processing only. For other games this figure is useless.

Maybe it is useless, maybe it is not.
Remember, 3DMark Vantage is NEW and it should be representing the games that are to be released in the future.
Physics support is there already in 3DMark, if you have an addon Phiysics card. But you have to modify it to use the physics in the nVidia cards to work. That is not cheating IMO.

whats cheating is this improves the CPU score A LOT....and thus improves the 3Dmark score...the PPU processing score and CPU score adds together so that is cheating to the max

Only concern is why do nVidia drivers want ONLY to change files in the 3DMark and not to change those files in the games. Actually any patch for 3D mark should come from producers of 3DMark and obviously not from the device driver of the VGA. If VGA driver does change the files of 3DMark why don't it do same for game as well?

Not every game is supported. I'm sure they were involved in making the UT3's patch.

thats the poin they JUST WANT THE USERS TO SEE HIGHER SCORES, they dont give a rats ass abt Unreal 3 Engine based games....More 3D mark score...the better thats what ppl think

nothing to ask, its clear they try to improve 3DMark score one way or another. When you install 3DMark driver takes care of getting max score from it. But when you install UT3 you don't get that, unless you install some other shit patch.

This is not the first time if nVIDIA cheats. This is the 4th time. But anyway Its not cheating in my mind.I bought Ageia for physics and I'm gonna use it b4 it rots and dies.Besides AMD and nVIDIA have talks bringin ATI on the Ageia API too coz they wanna destroy Havoc from Intel.

heyyy so it says
CJ let us know that the Nvidia PhysX driver changes some DLL files files within 3DMark Vantage and overwrites them with new versions. These versions cause your PPU to stop working, but will offload work to the GPU if you have a PhysX capable graphics card like GF9/GTX 200. When you install a Radeon you can't get your PPU back to work since NV overwrote the original DLLs.
so i had a 8600GT and now i got a radeon, so will dis effect me??

so i had a 8600GT and now i got a radeon, so will dis effect me?? :shocked:Oh,c'mon everybody reinstalls the OS or clears out drivers with a driver cleaner b4 new VGA installation.U might asd well remove 3Dmark and relevant things.By the way I dont think now it has a problem.People now install two ATI cards for graphics and a nVIDIA for the PPU operations namely PhysX. :D
But in XP environment.Vista will disable one automatically. Will need a driver hack.
