Indian premier Dr. Manmohan Singh and Afghan President Hamid Karzai will get the topmost security among regional leaders attending the 15th SAARC summit in Colombo, diplomatic sources said. Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani too, will also be a security priority, according to the sources.
The protection of these leaders for the duration of their stay in Sri Lanka has been decided after an assessment by international security agencies.
Indian will send hundreds of its Special Protection Group troops as well as warships and aircraft equipped with latest surveillance technology to protect Colombo.
For the Afghan leader, security will be provided by a renowned international security firm on recommendation by the US State Department.
Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence will protect their PM while in Colombo.
Meanwhile, the Parliamentary Complex will be the venue for the private meeting of the heads of state, which had taken place in the outstations whenever Sri Lanka hosted the summit earlier.
The proposal for using a well-known hotel in Mount Lavinia had been rejected after Indian defence experts decided that its access routes were unsafe.
Meanwhile, 'Ravaya' reported that New Delhi has officially told Colombo that it wants to takeover security of the city for the duration of the summit to ensure the safety of the Indian PM.
