Converting from FAT32 to NTFS at a later time

If you want, under W*NDOW$ XP you can convert your FAT32 partition to NTFS using the following command from your Command Prompt:

convert c: /fs:ntfs

No, no. I was against that. :D:D:D

I don't mind converting, but the tool that comes with Windows is not so great. This is because it will use a cluster size of 512bytes instead of the less aggressive 4kB default size. The hard drive will have to do more seeks with lower cluster size and unless they are queue perfectly, you might get a slight performance hit. Using third party softwares such as Acronis DiskDirector, you can change the cluster size if it doesn't automatically use the 4kB size.

However, if you are only concerned about security, then this conversion method will be fine.

I'm private opinion is that like it's not such a great idea to upgrade Windows 98 to XP instead of formatting and clean installing XP, this is not a great idea too.
