Oops I forgot to mention. Even though my primary email account is a gmail one (I have two, one for junk and one for official stuff, both of which are monitored through Thunderbird), I use a yahoo account for backups. I forward every email I get to the gmail accounts, to the yahoo account, so in case oneday something happens to the gmail servers, I will still have my emails intact (or even if I delete some from the gmail account). My thunderbird profile only has emails I received recently btw.

Not everything. There could be important mails and at the same time, I might delete an important email by mistake (by mis-selecting it)

Official stuff means, emails from campus, torrent communties, friends who don't spam (not who forward emails with loads of photos) etc.
