Sri Lanka loses UNHRC seat

Sri Lanka was voted out from the UN Human Rights Council in New York today. 101 members voted for Sri Lanka but four other countries in Asia received more votes than Sri Lanka.

No surprise for me.. Can we really keep with the UNs standards of Human Rights with such a Terrorist Problem going on ?

I for one dont believe that Terrorism can be countered in conventional methods..so some people may get their rights violated..bt that doesn't mean that a Gov can totally forget about them & go on all out attack either.. Has to have a balance I guess..

Violation of human rights can happen in a war situation, but their must be a method to punish people who have violated them, thats what we lack right now.

We cant be that extreme machang... We voted for a democratic government to protect its citizens & uphold OUR human rights as much as possible.. We also have a right to hear whats really going on in the War too... We didnt vote for a Government to victimize, beat up & grossly disregard our freedom & rights ne ?

Just after we got kicked out of UNHRC, the nation's defense journalist was abducted by a white van, beaten, threatened, tortured to get information on his sources in the Military, then dumped on the road...

This is the story that may hav gotten him abducted..

The more these idiots do these kinds of stupid shit..the more difficult it'll be for SL internationally...

If all what defence.lk is true.. then why does the gov need to silence the journalists ? the truth is that although we are progressing in the front there are also fukups..(like the recent Muhamalei incident)... it was an ill-planned attack that cost needless lives of r soldiers... so by exposing these kinds of stuff is disadvantages to the gov..so they try to silence everyone up...
