TNA leader R. Sampanthan making a special statement in Parliament today called on the government to release all political prisoners immediately and resolve the ongoing hunger strike by former LTTE cadres in prisons.

He also added that that most of the cadres who were imprisoned, were those who surrendered to the military during the last stages of the war.

Sampanthan, further called on the government to “reduce the excessive and oppressive presence of the military in the North and East”. Leader of the House responding to the statement made by the TNA MP stated that a government would respond to the said statement tomorrow as three Ministries were involved.
