Govt. has misled people : UNP -
03-26-2012, 11:56 PM

UNP Parliamentarian Harin Fernando speaking at a press conference at the office of the Leader of Opposition today (26) said that the government is trying to go for a snap election as it has now realized that before the next six months their true face will be blared to the people after misleading them for so long.
However, he said UNP is prepared to face an election at any time. Continuing he said that partners in the government themselves have criticized its actions and therefore President Rajayapka is seeking to marginalize them by not giving them nominations at a future election further because of the antics of ‘Thummulle Veeraya’ the common masses are disillusioned with the party and losing support steadily.
“A minister in the government has said a family of 3 can live comfortably with a monthly income of Rs. 7500/-. He should prove it by doing it himself. It shows how unrealistic they are when they consider how the ordinary people struggle to survive with even the barest minimum. He and his colleagues ‘Thummulle Veeraya,’ Jonston Fernando and Mervyn Silva are living in a world of star gazers and lotus eaters,” the people have realized he said.
A certain minister has said that it was he who chased Poddala Jayantha away and that he would break the legs of other journalists as well who have gone to Geneva against the government. This then is the true face of the government which has promised to ensure media freedom at the United Nations Human Rights Council. Minsiter G.L. Peris has condemned this impudent statement made by Minister Mervyn Silva, he added.
Parliamentarian Harin Fernando further said humanitarian activists Sunila Abeysekara, Pakiayasothy Saravanamuthu and Nimalka Fernando who had gone to Geneva had been threatened by some of the government delegates, little realizing that a country’s voting is decided not by various activists but by the head of that government.
Instead of sending a 71-strong delegation at state expense to Geneva, better results could have been obtained if 2 members each were sent to several voting countries.
“In spite of what the government says we lost the vote at Geneva miserably and there is no excuse. Government’s moronic disregard for LLRC recommendations has brought about this demeaning situation,” he said.
