So for software engineers and for IT professionals in general:

Western Australia and Queensland don't offer state nomination for SEs
NSW requires applicants to be already working there

Aus Capital territory needs applicants to have a job offer
SA also requires applicants to work there (not sure if this is true anymore or the credibility of the source)

Northern territory and tasmania - can simply forget about these

So this leaves us only with Victoria as they seem to have the most lenient requirements... but not sure how the competition is.

Anyone who has experience applying for Victoria state nomination?

mchn are you referring to 190 or 491

190.

491 seems to have similar requirements. but with 491, you can't work in big cities like sydney, melbourne, brisbane and perth even if those are inside the same state. also, with 491 you got to stay 3 years before you can apply for PR.

For Victoria, these are the steps for ICT

1. Lodge an EOI
2. Wait for the Pre-Invite (Could take 1 day to infinity)
3. Send your application with CV and other supporting documents (Your CV will be assessed by a panel of industry experts)
4. Victoria sends you the approval or refusal

- If approved, you will get an invitation from DoHA immediately.

Not to demotivate but this is the reality, you need to have a minimum 90 or 85 points WITHOUT state points to get a pre-invite.
Even though you get a pre-invite only a handful of applicants get approved from Victoria as they are really tough in their selection process. They generally prefer onshore or someone who has a valid job offer.

Good luck!

Agree. But if you have some certain rare skills you might get a chance but hard to compete with the multi talented indians unfortunately
