ALL NETWORKS BROADBAND LIMITED!!! VIOLATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS!!!

As you may know people here are shouting at the SLT about the bandwidth problem... but today I went to the SLT and they told..

"The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka has forced us to implement the Fair User Policy to our users by threatening not to providing the Lenience to serve our users. Hence we had to take the decision of implementing Fair User Policy knowing that it would render a certain percent of the users unable to access broadband speed internet. Following their orders we limited Bandwidth to 20GB per user and usage above this limit will result in the user being marked as an heavy user. This is also affecting all other ISP's in country."

So I went to the The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka and I spoke to one Mr. Sanath Siriwardana.

"We have received various reports that internet speeds are slow. But there is nothing called Unlimited access. Everything has to be limited. We have not instructed any ISP to carry out such an execution of limitation without our knowledge. However ISP's all over the Island agreed that they cannot provide up to TRC standard service using Unlimited traffic and that certain Bandwidth caps had to be put in place for users. Users going over the cap will automatically charged. He INSISTED THAT, people need to PAY for what they get"

This is in fact proof that the Government has managed to put a price on Information from the internet.

I went to Dialog, and I attempted to contact Mr. Suren Gunawardana. But I was not able meet him. However I was directed to a Technical officer at the Dialog head office who said

"Dailog has also been subjected to the regulations of The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission as well. We will also limit speed once the user reaches 20GB."

As such according to new government laws Rs. 350/- per 1000MB should be paid by the people. So total cost of this using 25KB/s 24X7 will mean 61GB of usage... that's 21,350/=

Congratulations People of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.

I'm looking forward for a Human Rights Case Against the Government TRC. Because how can they measure what is fair and do it as they please. This is like saying people do not need to masturbate because the majority in the country does not! Of-course! Majority are married!!!

is 20Gb the set limit for FUP application for all packages?
ISPs need to be more transparent with their policies. No where in any of their websites have they informed the consumer about the implementation of a FUP. That is a serious violation of our rights as consumers. They do not have a right to keep us in the dark about such matters and make cutbacks on the service they provide.

Good on you for taking some action about it mate.

We are ready to pay, but we should get the full service for what we pay for!!!! :oo:

I think its time this Govt went home... with so many things to worry about, they go and limit net usage for home users.. :frown:

wtf is this 20GB ? even if they are gonna provide 55kB/s [512kbps line] users will pass max DL limit of 20 GBs in 4.42 Days..!! :baffled:

per day usage 682.7 MB only we cn do is checking mail... :growl:

1600/20 = 80 Rs for 1 GB...
