A 14-year-old-girl was admitted to hospital after injuring herself after falling through a damaged ceiling where she had been hiding with her lover with whom she had eloped, police said.

They said the girl from Hindawa had eloped with her fiancé and were hiding on the ceiling of a house in the neighboring village.

Katupotha police said the incident took place when a special police team raided the house on a tip off that the couple was hiding there.

The injured girl was admitted to the Kuliyapitiya hospital while her fiancé was taken into custody.

Katupotha police Inspector Lakdasa Abeygunasekara said legal action would be taken against her fiancé since the victim was a minor.- SS
