Lasith Malinga announced his retirement from Test cricket on Friday stating that he wished to prolong his career as a national cricketer for Sri Lanka and focus on T20's and One Day International matches.
The announcement from the Mumbai Indian pacer who leads the tally of wickets in the ongoing Indian Premier League comes after he was accused of choosing the tournament over his national duties.
Though he said in a statement that he is physically fit to play the shorter formats of the game, a 'degenerative knee problem' needed to be managed carefully. This would also allow him to perform at his best for Sri Lanka in the 2015 World Cup.
