Sri Lankan Opposition leader and United National Party chief Ranil Wickramasinghe met External Affairs Minister S. M. Krishna here on Monday and discussed issues of resettlement of ethnic Tamils and the report of the panel appointed by the Secretary General of the United Nations.
Wickramasinghe told reporters after the meeting: " There is the report of the panel appointed by the Secretary General of the UN to advise him on how to deal with it. And, what Sri Lanka and India had discussed are some of those issues and the mission we have to take."
The Sri Lankan leader assured the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) that it would support the latter in its talks with the ruling United People`s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) regarding a solution to the issue of resettlement of ethnic Tamils.
"Resettlement is going on. The question is the pace. In some area the resettlement has been satisfactory. Other areas, I would say it is not. Though the government they say it is satisfactory," said Wickramasinghe.
"So that is a matter that comes out for review in Parliament and we are working together with TNA (Tamil National Alliance) to ensure that the resettlement takes place as far as possible," he added.
