Chao Legions PC-Rip


Capcom has once again ported a lackluster console game to the PC. While we may never know why the company chooses not to port its better games, we do know that Chaos Legion is still a repetitive and bland hack-and-slash game on the PC, just as it was on the PlayStation 2.

In the game, you play as a knight named Sieg Warheit, who is tasked with stopping a man named Victor Delacroix from collecting powerful magical artifacts. The two men and these artifacts are linked by past events; Sieg killed Delacroix's lover, and now Delacroix is hoping to use these magical artifacts to bring his beloved back to life, even if it means causing wanton destruction along the way. The game uses cutscenes between missions to advance the plot, but the silly dialogue and convoluted scene direction make following the story more difficult than it needs to be. The cutscenes include decent but unremarkable voice acting, much like the music and other sound in the game.

The original Crazy Taxi from Sega's internal team Hitmaker was released in arcades in 1999, and it was subsequently ported to Sega's Dreamcast video game console in 2000. Both versions of the game were simple, fun racing games that let you play as a cabbie in search of fares to transport to their destinations as quickly as possible, performing as many dangerous stunts (like narrowly scraping past oncoming cars) as possible to earn extra tips from your impatient, thrill-seeking passengers. Hitmaker went on to create two console follow-ups, the most recent of which is Crazy Taxi 3 for the Xbox. Yet, for some reason, the very first Crazy Taxi game has just now been ported to the PC, but considering how the port turned out, it probably shouldn't have been.

Game gây ấn tượng mạnh ngay từ đầu khi thử thách các tay súng bằng một cuộc đào thoát ngoạn mục của Ryan Lennox. Trong cảnh này, bạn chỉ thực hiện được một vài động tác cơ bản như chạy, nhảy, nấp và bắn. Cho đến khi bạn lọt vào tầng hầm ở một nhà thờ nhỏ thì những ảnh hưởng của ma thuật lên nhân vật, nét đặc trưng của Infernal, mới từ từ được mở ra. Từ đây, Ryan bắt đầu sử dụng được quyền năng ma thuật.

Ma thuật giúp Ryan hạ 1 đối thủ chỉ bằng 1 phát bắn duy nhất (trong điều kiện bình thường là 2 phát). Điểm đặc biệt của loại này là bạn có thể “gồng lửa” sẵn bằng cách giữ chuột phải rồi đi tìm đối thủ. AI của máy khá thông minh, biết ẩn nấp và bắn lén, nhưng sẽ không gây nhiều khó khăn cho bạn ngoài những con trùm. Khi sử dụng lửa, bạn sẽ tốn 20 điểm mana cho mỗi phát bắn. Ma thuật cũng sẽ giúp Ryan “xuất thần” để di chuyển nhanh đến 1 vị trí tạm thời nào đó trong thời gian ngắn (chỉ vài giây), thường sử dụng khi cần vô hiệu hóa các hệ thống báo động trong game.

Infernal cho bạn khá nhiều vũ khí, nhưng khi so sánh mức sát thương giữa chúng, thậm chí với các loại súng xịn, thì độ chênh lệch không đáng kể. Ở chế độ chơi bình thường, game khá dễ chịu khi cho nhiều máu và đạn dược. Khôi phục mana cũng không có gì khó, bạn chỉ cần hạ địch ở chế độ bắn bình thường, cách khác là tìm những vị trí mà ma thuật được phục hồi (thường có đuốc hoặc hơi tối, khác với những nơi có ánh đèn sáng mạnh làm tiêu hao mana), hay dùng “mắt thần” để dò kiếm các điểm ẩn cho máu (lửa xanh) hoặc mana (lửa đỏ).

Phần chuyển động và hình ảnh của nhân vật khi chơi trong game so với các đoạn cắt cảnh khá giống nhau nên tạo được sự gần gũi. Đồ họa “kế thừa” sự ma quái bằng những cảnh mờ mờ ảo ảo, tầm gần nhìn rất đẹp nhưng gây cảm giác khó chịu, khó xác định mục tiêu khi cần nhìn xa. Khi chơi Infernal mà không có phụ đề, bạn cần chú ý lắng nghe những đoạn nói chuyện, đặc biệt giữa Ryan và “ông trùm”, để có được một số thông tin hữu ích cho những bước hành động tiếp theo.
